Decades of data suggest parenthood makes people unhappy

Are people with kids happier? Studies say no and point to a happiness gap among parents and nonparents. Childless people are happier in some countries. Our folk knowledge assumes that children are key to living a happy, meaningful life. But decades of studies show that parents are less happy than their nonparent peers.
